The very talented Leslie Wood (www.lesliewoodarts.com) contacted me and asked if I would be interested doing an art trade. e.g. an album cover in exchange for a song. Leslie is working on a book about monsters and she sent me some of her draft pages and words. I used them to write this song.

The guitar is in an open D tuning (DADF#AD) with a capo on the second fret, which is a bit different for me, but I felt like doing something a bit differently for this song. I recorded the lead vocals and guitar simultaneously with one AKG C414 mic. Taking that approach can make it difficult to get a good sound and balance of the voice and instrument, but you just can't beat the feel of singing and playing at the same time. I overdubbed hand claps, a tom drum and background vocals through my SM7b. I like the song's message and I found myself unusually moved while recording it. I had to abandon more than a few takes because I became too choked up to sing.
