about

On October 10th 2010, Timmy sent me a message through my website asking me to write a song for some lyrics that he'd written. He'd sent a request in earlier about a girl that he used to like, and I thought perhaps these lyrics were about that same girl. I used most of the lyrics he'd written for the verse and added a chorus. It's one of my favorite songs that I've written. Here's the request:

What is your song idea?
I wrote some lyrics and I was wondering if you could put a melody to it. I was really feeling a happy and upbeat vibe to it. Please change the lyrics as you see fit or add to it.

You could come with me, I'm never far
or you could never speak with me again
either way, you'll still be here
and i'll be happy that you are.

but let me say...

When you speak to me, chills go down my bone
but I can tell, you want me out of your life
either way, never fear
I will leave you alone

(I don't have a chorus yet)

describe your song in one word: upbeat

I wrote and recorded the song the same day and sent it to Timmy on October 10th, 2010.

lyrics

(in this recording I tuned my guitar down one step from EADGBE to DGCFAD. Below I'm noting how I actually played the chords, though they'll sound a step lower on the recording. It sounds to me like I'm playing two note "power chords" through most of it.)

Verse:
[E] You might come with me
[F#] I'm never far
[A] Or we might never speak again

[E] But either way
[F#] I'm happy you are
[A] My onetime friend [B]

Chorus:
[A] But let's just that to me [E] it felt right [B]
[A] When we both rode the sky [E] train that night [B]
[A] And found the fine line between [E] love and like [B]
oh oh [C#m] oh
My [A] onetime friend [E]
My [A] sometimes friend [E]
My [A] onetime friend [E]
My [A] sometimes friend [E]

Verse:
[E] When you speak to me
[F#] You chill my bones
[A] And I can barely move

[E] But if you want
[F#] I'll leave you alone
[A] I've got other stuff to do

Chorus:
A] But let's just that to me [E] it felt right [B]
[A] When we both rode the sky [E] train that night [B]
[A] And found the fine line between [E] love and like [B]
oh oh [C#m] oh
My [A] onetime friend [E]
My [A] sometimes friend [E]
My [A] onetime friend [E]
My [A] sometimes friend [E]

Instrumental:
[E]
[A]
[...the next chord isn't really a chord, just a tri-tone. A# and D. fretted like this... 67xxxx ... i suppose its implying some kind of diminished chord... it's pretty dissonant, but only for a moment, then were back to the A major.]
[A]

Chorus:
[A] But let's just that to me [E] it felt right [B]
[A] When we both rode the sky [E] train that night [B]
[A] And found the fine line between [E] love and like [B]
oh oh [C#m] oh
My [A] onetime friend [E]
My [A] sometimes friend [E]
My [A] onetime friend [E]
My [A] sometimes friend [E]
