pop the can
slice the cran
pass it around
do it again
i can’t believe that it’s thanksgiving i’ve waited for so long
i’ve purchased all the turkey trimmings and yet there’s something wrong
where’s the sweet?
to compliment the meat
where’s the sauce?
my dear i’m at a loss
what are we to do?
just pop the can and slice the cran
it’s the best part of thanksgiving
i shopped around for fresh cranberries but they were all sold out
so grab some cans all you can carry, it tastes better anyhow
make it fresh
but why the fuss
it only takes two steps
just pop the can and slice the cran
it’s the best part of thanksgiving

First things first you’ll you need a lot of potatoes
either red russet, fingerling, or yukon gold
a giant pot of salted water set to boiling
get that started earlier or it’ll be too cold
next wash the potatoes and remove any bad spots
there ain’t no telling what goes on underground
chop them into cubes the size of tatter tots
and drop them in the water but don’t splash it around
we’re going to mash mash mash mash mash potatoes
mash it up
we’ll need garlic rosemary salt and pepper
and milk cream butter or vegetable broth
put it all together with the drained potatoes
and mash mash mash mash mash it around
we’re going to mash mash mash mash mash potatoes
mash it up

oooh sweet potato
watch her from the door, mashing up the sweet potatoes with intentions so pure
he flashes me a smile, adds four tablespoons brown sugar to the top of the pile
i’m here what can i do?
mix in two tablespoons of butter a half teaspoon of salt too
a quarter cup of dark rum
but my aunt she says add more because it’s a little bit more fun
fold the mandarins into the bowl
put it all in a greased casserole
and for the topping
two tablespoons each, butter sugar pecans
oooh sweet potato
in the oven 30 minutes it goes, feel like i’m the one pre-heated by the way that your heart glows
we’re not expected until 4, i give my thanks and share some wine with the one i adore
ooh sweet potato

I’ve got 29 oz of sweet potatoes, what are we going to do?
I’ve got half a cup of brown sugar baby, what do you want to do?
It’s going to be good
It’s going to be hot
It’s going to be sweet
I’ve got so many many mini marshmallows, but a cup and a half will do
I’ve got a quarter cup of butter baby, cut it into little cubes
It’s going to be good
It’s going to be hot
It’s going to be sweet
Tastes just like candy
Candied Yams
We’re going to lay it all down, easy baby, we’re going layer it in the pan
400 degrees for 25 minutes, we’re going to make some candied yams
It’s going to be good
It’s going to be hot
It’s going to be sweet
Tastes just like candy
Candied Yams

The whistle blows at 3 pm its such a joyful noise
then I head down to the parker house where my baby is employed
we’re gonna paint the town tonight but man before we go
she has to make some parker house rolls
the parker house is just about the finest place to stay
whether you come up from New York or a thousand miles away
and when you visit boston do one thing before you go
and try yourself some parker house rolls
She mixes a tablespoon of sugar with a packet of yeast
adds a quarter cup of water at one hundred ten degrees
waits a minute, adds a cup of flour, and waits some more
that’s how she starts to make the parker house rolls
She melts three-quarters stick of butter in a pan upon the stove
adds a cup of milk, a little sugar, and heats it till its warm
She adds an egg, a pinch of salt, the starter and she mix them all
then adds some flour into the dough, three cups until it forms a ball
It goes into a buttered bowl covered with a towel
and then we let them rise those parker house rolls
Once the dough has doubled and we’ve passed two idle hours
She turns it out onto a counter that she’s covered up with flour
I watch her punch the dough and roll it out
use a mason jar to cut the rounds
folds them up and set them on a pan
and lets them rise an hour again
They bake for 20 minutes at 370 F or so
When they come out you got some parker house rolls
the parker house is just about the finest place to stay
whether you come up from New York or a thousand miles away
If you can’t make it up to Boston, well now at least you know
How to make yourself some parker house rolls

de-freeze the turkey if it’s frozen
or get a fresh one they’re better
take the bag or bundle of insides
rinse out the turkey inside and out
tie up or tuck in the legs, or don’t
it’s not that important
cover up the turkey in tin foil
and cook at 275, 10min per the pound
soften some butter, remove the turkey
and turn the heat up to 375
remove the foil, brush with lots of butter
with lots and lots of butter
stick in the meat thermometer
i know you may have one but
trust me you should by one
it is worth it
the roast your turkey until it reads 170 degrees
and take out your turkey and save the juice for gravy

Gravy, just plain old pan gravy
to share with my baby
because she’s mine all mine
Oh honey, you know we don’t make much money
that’s OK you still love me, and I love you
and we have a grand old time, yes we do
go ahead scrape off some of that turkey fat
put a sauce pan of medium high
mix in some shallots and some butter baby
maybe a little dry red wine
gravy, just plain old pan gravy
to share with my baby, we have a grand old time

FIRST bring the water and sugar to a boil in a medium saucepan
add the cranberries and return to a boil
reduce heat and boil gently for ten minutes stir occasionally
serve it warm or let it cool
put it on everything
put it on everything
put it on everything
makes two point two five cups so triple the recipe
put it on everything
put it on everything

I bought you a pumpkin pie
I would have baked it but when I tried
I found my oven’s broken and I don’t know why
Instead I bought you a pumpkin pie
Man i hope it’s the thought that count
if i had a talent i’d be so proud
but when i try things they never work out
man, i hope it’s the thought that counts
i planned to bring you some wild rice
and cook it in stock just the way that you like
but then i thought “yours i so much better than mine”
in stead i bought you a pumpkin pie
and thought how i love you friend of mine

sample a piece, sample a piece of the orient
open the can, all of the oranges are mandarin
and the trade winds from the south seas
open your mind to a pineapple breeze
one taste is all that separates heaven and earth
relieve the cow, relieve the cow of it’s heavy cream
whip sugar in, whip it until it’s a living dream
then drench it in coconut flakes, no need to skimp, use as much as it takes
one taste is all that separates heaven and earth
now don’t you forget about marshmallows no one knows where they come from
but we know where they go
grab that jar of cherries, marchioness, pop it all in the fridge my friend
and here’s a story while you wait
on the first day go created the universe
and on the second day god produced the water
on the third day god created dry dry land
on the fourth day, the sun and the stars grew hotter, thanks to orion the
hunter
on the fifth day god made up the animals
on the sixth day god created man
and on the seventh day, oh on the seventh day
he had some time to kill, he had some fruit to chill
what else could he make?

one sharp rock
one flat tire
show up late and get fired
come home drunk
start a fight
watch her pack
stew for days in a brine of regret and box wine
figure out that she’s not coming back
sometimes forget to eat, sometimes remember
remember thE fourth thursday in november
crack the fridge
bare and dank
find A cold, lonely frank
sympathize with it’s plight
start to cry
fill a pot with your tears
and what’s left of the beers
you abandoned unfinished nearby
remember that the grass is always greener
peel back the plastic bag around the wiener
i got me a thanksgiving hot dog
i’m grateful for all that i got
i got me a thanksgiving hot dog
i got me a stove and a pot
i used to have you and your lovin’
but those days are over and done
i got me a thanksgiving hot dog
a thanksgiving hot dog for one
add the dog to the pot
heat on high until hot
fish it out, wipe it off best you can
use a stale ice cream cone for a bun
eat alone
standing up at the sink
like a man
feeling cold and lonely on a holiday can hurt
but cheer up ‘cause there’s always hot dog water for dessert
