Paper mache to make the face
wrinkles and warts made out of clay.
Added some fangs and fur and fur and claws
and fake blood dribbled off the jaws.

It was the best idea
and this would finally be his year.

He gave it a giant crooked hunchback
tufts of hair all spiky and black
leathery wings and patches of scales
Plus a seven foot long tail.

He wanted to try it on
He'd been waiting for so long
it was every kind of awesome
in one scary monster costume.

With the final stitch in place
a smile flew across his face.

and the moment was finally here.

He tried to try it on
but clearly something had gone wrong
It passed through his spectral body,
caught on the bed post.
So for another year he'd have to go as himself --
just a disappointed ghost.
